Garment or Quilt?

I made this fabric years ago and now I dragged it out of the stash because I'd like an opinion. Should I use this piece of sateen for a garment or a quilt?
It can't be fused since sateen frays like mad, which is why I haven't used it yet.
And for the life of me, I can't think of how I would use it in a pieced quilt. Any ideas?

The neckline is slanted, which I don't like so I am planning on altering the pattern, and making a new facing for the fixed neckline. What I do like about this pattern (sans belt and chest pockets) is that it would look good in mixed fabrics. O, and I will not do that curved hem either. Straight across with a good deep slit at each side.

First Try
So here is the inspiration piece. And then my thumbnail which is what I worked off of.

I had lots of nice scraps all ready to use and it was quick and so fun, but then I had to fill in the background and that's where it went wrong.
I also think that the shapes need to be taller. The original had layers too, which I just didn't want to do in my piece. Perhaps I need to narrow the color choices too. I'll try again today. Couldn't leave out the dots.

To be quilted

Untitled as of this moment, hand dyed silks and cottons, fused, hand quilted, 13" square.
I was so 'conscious' of trying to make a piece large enough to fit a 12" panel that I measured incorrectly and ended up with this 13" square piece, nothing that I want to trim off to fit a 12" panel, which would have to be 10.5" after quilting. Grrr. So this is too big for the panel and I don't have a panel that it will fit.
Eensy little bits of orange dot the yellow area, and green silk dots are on the red part.
I'm just not in the mood to quilt it today. Maybe tomorrow...

Ikea Shelves

The new work on the right has sold today.

I bought these Ribba shelves from Ikea in Illinois before we moved to TN and never got them hung until today. I am thrilled to have someplace to put the new stuff and get it off the cluttered up surfaces of work tables. And I can photograph three pieces at once for future work. Yay! These shelves cost $15.
